A Few Notes on Christmas Trees:
Needle retention is affected by many factors:
-
The #1 reason for needle loss is if the tree stand goes dry for any period of time. A new cut should be made at the base of the tree, but it isn't always practical to do once a tree is decorated.
-
Drought conditions during the growing season will cause trees to lose their needles faster.
-
A warm fall will mean that the trees haven't "hardened off" and will loose the inside needles quickly. Putting a tree into the "shaker" will reduce some of this.
-
Trees that are carried on top of cars and NOT WRAPPED will lose more moisture than if you wrap the tree in a tarp or blanket.
-
Close ALL heat vents in the room where the tree is & keep fires to a minimum in a nearby fireplace or stove.
-
Several varieties are unpredictable for needle retention. This list includes: Balsam fir and all spruces. This means that one can last four weeks while another grown next to it might only last two weeks. If you purchase these, look at your calendar first and decide which two weeks you want your tree up. Keep it in a cold garage or porch in a bucket of water until its time to bring it inside.

Notes on the aroma from a tree:
-
Environmental conditions will affect how strongly and how long a tree will smell. These are out of our control.
-
If you water the tree with WARM water, it will strengthen the smell of the tree.
